Hearing pages being flipped, people walking in and out and librarians arranging the circulations, my mind wanders off into the multitude shelves around the room as I sit in the “Quiet Room” at the Forest Hills Library. Books ranging from “Monkey Business” to “Writing a Killer Resume” are in my sight and the waves of people walking in and out of the room make my GMAT studying much more interesting. I should really be concentrating on my exam, scheduled this Saturday June 13th, 2009, instead of looking around but I can’t help myself. I hope I don’t have AADD, which stands for Adult Attention Deficit Disorder, although come to think of it, I do enjoy getting all the attention!

The population of the library consists mainly of the elderly, presumably retired, middle aged men and women (I wonder if they are unemployed like I am) and students, ranging from middle to high school, and all of them seem to be making full use of the library. There is a man who is napping on the sofa behind me, an elderly lady reading the newspaper outside the quiet room and some students who are just diligently studying.

The library to book enthusiasts is like the candy store to children, a mystical and resourceful place where one can roam freely, picking up books, magazines, CDs or DVDs that may quench one’s curiosity. This is where your tax money is being wisely spent and I am glad to be one of the many Americans who are contributing to this effort. At least the tax money that is being invested in Libraries is better spent than the money that is invested in GM or Citigroup..

If you have some free time, you should check out the scene at your local library. Be prepared to experience something different.

p.s. Is it me or the weather feels more like that of Fall that it is of Summer?
